HAPPY NEW YEAR! I haven't been quite as active posting news updates directly on the website as our social profiles are very active right now. Do please check out our socials to keep up to date with new video releases and keep in contact through any media channels:
Thanks for checking out our website! It's so great to be out performing again after months spent rescheduling events due to COVID. Bookings are coming in fast now but we do still have some availability in 2022, why not book Norfolk's Best Wedding Entertainment for your event?*As judged by Wedding Emporium Business Industry Awards.
We are really happy to announce that The Abyss Function Band have been voted the 2021 Winner for 'Entertainment' in The Wedding Emporium Business industry awards!
Happy New Year Everyone! Thank you for dropping by! Such a shame that we find ourselves in another UK lockdown, I hope that a little soul might lighten your day!
Having some fun singing Lewis Capaldi!
Joined by my twin for a beautiful piano ballad version of this song. Two live vocal takes.
Just a beautiful tune. I can't wait until I'm able to get out performing this on my guitar again!
Amazing One Take Recording of Times Like These in an acoustic style!
Enjoy the latest of my 'Lockdown Live' recordings. I'm delighted to be joined by a special guest performer this week, the fantastic Simon Rudd on guitar! You asked for it (!) so we made it happen.
Remember that the 'lockdown live' performances are recorded as one continuous live take, the video editing is done afterwards!
Please like, share, subscribe and stay safe.
Here's the latest in my 'Lockdown' series!
You might notice that I've cheated slightly this week and this one isn't live!
As part of the performance service that we offer to clients I offer the option to record a special song, for example a wedding couple's first dance song, as a memento to keep forever to remember their day! A wedding client from two years ago approached me recently to ask if I was willing to record her first dance song posthumously as an anniversary gift for her husband! I have taken the opportunity to update the package (so that it's no longer a 'first dance CD, but is now instead a first dance digital recording and video package)! Evidently, the video could include a special message or dedication; however that didn't seem appropriate to publish online!
Remember to like the band's facebook page so that you don't miss next week's edition!
Hope you enjoy! Greg x
Here's the latest in our 'Lockdown Live' series!
This one was a request from Richard and Kelly (we would have been performing at their wedding today!). It has a lovely sentiment and they wanted us to play this song because, after all the craziness and despite everything that's gone on, they just want to have their wedding! We look forward to celebrating with them in 2021!
Hope you enjoy! Greg x
Here's the latest in the 'Lockdown Live' video series.
This weekend myself and the band would have been performing for Emma and Graham's wedding and they set me the challenge of performing an acoustic guitar cover of this Marvin Gaye classic!
If I'd left myself a little more time to do it (!) I would probably have arranged it for one guitar. However, I opted to pull in the guitar talents of my (much more handsome) twin brother.... erm (ha ha!!).
Hope you enjoy, see you again next week! Greg x
Here's the latest in our 'Lockdown Live' series! This one features the three piece band, all from the comfort of our own homes!
This weekend The Abyss Wedding & Function Band would have been performing at Julie's party. She didn't specifically have a song request for me, but as it's been a bit of a glum week (in terms of the weather) we thought we'd perform something uplifting!
We look forward to performing at Julie's party in 2021!
Remember to like and subscribe to our page so that you don't miss next week's edition.
Stay safe, Greg x
It's Friday (!) so it must be time for the next instalment of my 'Lockdown Live' Series!
This weekend myself and the boys would have been performing at Kim and Will's wedding. I've taken a request from them and they said they would like to hear me perform Elvis' classic track 'Can't Help Falling in Love'. As it's a song that has been covered so many times (!) I have taken a few liberties with the arrangement to try and come up with something that sounds a little more unique than a straight arpeggio backing. I'm pretty happy with the result and I hope that you like it to?
I'd like to wish Kim & Will a Happy 'Minimony' for Saturday (this seems to be the term adopted on the internet for those celebrating their original postponed wedding date)! We look forward to celebrating with you in the flesh in 2021. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this little performance.
Keep your eyes peeled for my next rendition, I have several videos coming to you in July. If you've enjoyed the video, and have committed to reading this far in the post (!), then please hit subscribe on the youtube video so that you don't miss any future Lockdown Live performances!
Stay safe, Greg x
Little Lion Man (written by Mumford and Sons) is the latest cover in my 'Lockdown Live' series of videos. The videos are primarily shot in the barn and are recorded as one live performance take. Tonight I would have been playing an acoustic solo set at The Garrison so this is dedicated to all who would have made the trip out to see me perform, I will hopefully see you later in the year!
Keep your eyes peeled for next weeks rendition. If you've enjoyed the video then please give the page a like so that you don't miss a thing!
Stay safe, Greg
The latest in my series of 'Lockdown Live' covers has just gone live on Youtube.
This weekend we would have been performing at Pat & Nicky's party. They requested if I would perform Paradise by George Ezra so here it is!
Thanks for checking in. Greg
Another weekend.. another song release and this is a BIG ONE!! This week's offering features Greg singing Castle on the Hill... with non-other than British music legend, Ed Sheeran!
You may remember that I am aiming to get some new content uploaded at weekends, when I would have been out performing. This weekend, I would have been performing at Abby and Sarah's wedding. Unfortunately, I am a bit sad about this event in particular as it is one of the very few COVID-19 affected events where the band could not accommodate the couple's rescheduled 2021 date. Evidently, we get to know our wedding clients really well during the planning process and we also get very excited about performing at their big day, so I am disappointed that we won't be able to celebrate with them in 2021. However, I wish them all the best for their big day and I'm sure that they will have a fantastic time!
So.. to help cheer me up this weekend, I headed over to smule and recorded my latest lockdown video with one of the world's best selling music artists, Ed Sheeran!!
It was my first time on smule and it was a lot of fun - let me know if there are any other stars that you would like to see me duet with and I'll see what I can do!
This weekend I should have been performing for a lovely event that was raising money for The Encephalitis Society.
With the event being postponed (like all of my performance events at the moment!) I thought I would take the time to shoot a quick video of a beautiful song by Robyn which is likely have made it into my set!
Stay safe, Greg x
I hope that everyone is keeping safe (and staying at home as much as possible) during these truly bizarre and uncertain times.
With the PM's decision to cancel all weddings, baptisms and public gatherings for the foreseeable future; all of our April, May and June event dates have now been rescheduled. With this in mind I wanted to touch base with all our clients to let you know that WE WOULD STILL LOVE TO BE YOUR WEDDING/FUNCTION BAND (!).
We get excited and emotionally invested in the events that we perform at and we will do our very best to accommodate any change of date and postponement. However, do please keep us informed and liaise with us regarding any change of date. 2021 is shaping up to be a VERY busy year with the usual new bookings coming in and most summer 2020 bookings being pushed back to 2021.
If I could offer some advice to those looking at the possibility of rescheduling your event to 2021, do try to get a selection of dates from your venue – including some mid-week dates – as this increases the possibility of bringing together the same team of suppliers to perform at your event. Start speaking to venues and suppliers early and keep in contact to ensure that you are able to get a new date to align for all involved!
For newly engaged couples and those looking to book the perfect band/venue/photographer for your new event in 2021 I would urge you to look early and get your suppliers booked in for your perfect 2021 event ASAP. It is going to be an incredibly busy year for most wedding and event suppliers, such as ourselves, so do work with us to find the perfect date and package for your special day!
Keep well, be strong and stay in contact! Greg x
Thanks for dropping by, feel free to browse! The boys in the Abyss Function Band have been using the start of the year to get together and work on some new repertoire, keep your eyes peeled for new videos and songs appearing on the lists throughout 2020!
Great Job! Thank you for visiting our website we hope that you've had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to a brilliant New Year. 2020 promises to be a cracking year with some excellent and very exciting wedding, party and event bookings in the diary! I will try to pop one or two public venue bookings in the diary for you to come along and enjoy!
Welcome to Summer everyone! Thanks for visiting the home of the Abyss Wedding and Function Band where you can check out videos, music links and get an idea about what the band/DJ could offer for your event! Keep your eyes peeled for new videos, etc which will be arriving soon!
It was a pleasure to play at Jan's retirement do last weekend! The three piece band enjoyed some wonderful pie (!) from Geoff and the catering team and were touched by the moving speeches. We then kept everyone dancing into the small hours with classic and modern hits.
What a lovely wedding last night, Lucy and Adam were a bundle of fun, and their guests were bouncing up and down on the dance-floor all night long!
Cheryl Beeney Events had everything fantastically organised, and Hautbois Hall looked stunning as always! James Rouse Photography worked an extremely long shift, still taking photos of the frivolities in the wee hours (!) Also, everyone found time to enjoy a tasty crepe from Christophes Crepes.
Check out our facebook page for photos and further info!
Just had time to put together a little video from Jordan and Josie’s wedding at the end of April. It was a great party atmosphere with lots of audience participation and ‘bandeoke’ (karaoke with a live band) fun! Scarborough Hill Country Inn was looking amazing as always!
Great to help Felicity and Henry celebrate their wedding at Oxnead Hall today. Greg performed for wedding drinks in the beautiful surroundings. Lovely venue! Lovely couple! Pictures available on our facebook page!
Hi again, thanks for visiting the website. The band are busy booking up gigs for late 2019 and 2020 but we have some unexpected availability in June/July 2019. Let Greg know if are looking for some last minute entertainment for this Summer's event!
Happy New Year and welcome to 2019! It's the perfect time to get organising and put those plans in place for your wedding or event. Thank you for visiting our site and don't hesitate to get in contact if you would like any further information regarding what we can offer for your entertainment.
The Abyss Wedding & Function Band have been having a little (well deserved!) time off from performing after the hustle and bustle of summer. However, we have been busy online booking up weddings and events for 2019 - do use the contact form if you would like to be in touch!
If you would like to catch us live then remember that we have a public event coming up at the St Faiths Social Club on Saturday 10 November 9:00pm - 11:30pm. The club is open to all but there is a small fee for non-members to enter - hope to see you there!
The Norfolk Wedding Band travelled the short distance to the The Norfolk Mead Hotel for this weekends wedding. The weather was glorious and it was a pleasure to help Nicola & James celebrate their special day! OMG Celebration Hire also did a fantastic job with their awesome Mirror Photo Booth. A few photos can be seen on our facebook page.
On Sat 28 April The Abyss Wedding & Function Band travelled to Fishley Hall to help Ant & Jess celebrate their wedding. The large barn was a glorious backdrop to Greg’s afternoon drinks performance and the guests had a wonderful (although rather cold!) day. Ant & Jess took the whole day in their stride, thoroughly enjoying the touching speeches and boogied the night away to the band! Purple plum catering did a fab job getting the meals out quickly and efficiently, whilst KK catering arrived in their fish and chip van to provide some sumptuous food for the evening buffet. Tim Stephenson Photography also worked his socks off staying into the small hours to capture some special moments on camera. Many congratulations Ant & Jess!
It was great to get the 2018 wedding season kicked off in style last weekend. Abyss were lucky enough to travel the (rather short!) journey to Coltishall to perform for Katie and Sam's wedding at the gorgeous Hautbois Hall. The venue has bags of character and is excellently staffed by expert wedding coordinator Cheryl Beeney and a host of confident staff. Although the weather did not go to plan (!) Sam and Katie took things in their stride and ended up getting some absolutely stunning photographs from Andy Davison. They certainly partied the night away (to both band & DJ) to create a day they will never forget! A great start to 2018!
I have just worked out how to add the 'review' feature to our Facebook Page! If you have ever found yourself dancing the night away to Abyss - or indeed if we have performed at your wedding, party or event (!) - and you have time to post a little review that would be great.
Thanks for your support!
Thanks for considering Abyss as you Wedding/Function Entertainment! Do browse our website and let us know if you have any queries regarding our services and how we can assist with your big day. We can offer bespoke packages to suit all your wedding needs and still have some availability for 2018!
Thanks for checking out abyss music! Last weekend Greg performed for Jess & Alex at a private venue just outside Bungay. The day was expertly organised by Wedding Coordinator - Sophie Jackson - who ensured that everything ran smoothly and the groom provided a couple of really nice personal touches - such as bespoke writing on the dance-floor - using his graphic design talents. Greg ensured that the entertainment ran smoothly for the day: providing a wireless mic for speeches, an individual acoustic performance of Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight' for the couples first dance followed by an hour long acoustic set to ease the guests into the evening before DJing into the small hours!
The Wedding Band received a lovely email from Jacob Webster earlier this week. We travelled down to the gorgeous Thrumpton Hall (Nottinghamshire) to perform for Jake & Sarah's wedding at the beginning of this month and enjoyed the opportunity to bring some of our bigger equipment - performing to a packed dance floor all evening! In his email Jacob says:
"Just a quick e-mail to thank you and your band for putting on an excellent show at our wedding. You guys were perfect. Everyone we spoke to had a great time and the dance floor was booming on into the night just as we had hoped it would. Thanks for your professionalism, good communication before the day and fantastic skills on the day."
The wedding band travelled to Lincolshire to perform for the second time at the beautiful Moot Hall in Holton-Le-Moor. The venue, although relatively small, has bags of character and was beautifully decorated by Chloe & Will and their friends and family - truly a wonderful venue to celebrate their wedding. Chloe and Will had a lovely blessing in the afternoon where friends and family performed music and read poetry followed by a 'Country Fete' in the gardens with Drinks and Games such as 'Splat the Rat', a 'Coconut Shy' and a 'Welly Wang'! The guests (and wedding band!) had great fun in the evening with non stop dancing and a guest appearance from guest Gareth being particular highlights!
The Abyss Wedding Band returned to The Norfolk Mead on Saturday for our second wedding performance of 2017 at this beautiful country venue. It was great to be there to help Angela and Nick celebrate their special day and Greg performed an acoustic set in the afternoon to accompany photos in the stunning (although a little cold!) gardens. The venue looked great - decorated with a pastel pink theme -and Nick & Ange had organised lots of special touches to make their day unique. When he was not preoccupied with keeping the day running smoothly Toastmaster Bob Lloyd entertained guests with his witty banter. The bride & groom also organised for a travelling casino and photo booth to arrive for the evening to help keep their guests entertained in the short breaks where they were not boogying away on the dancefloor to the band!
Many congratulations to James & Charlotte who celebrated their special day at the gorgeous Hunters Hall wedding venue on Sunday. The pair had opted for an acoustic solo to begin the evening celebrations in style before partying all night to DJ tunes (a DJ set which Greg crafted specifically out of songs suggested by Charlotte and James' guests!). Great fun was had by all!
Thanks for checking in with The Abyss Wedding & Function Band please take a little time to browse our site and listen to some audio clips! Although summer is shaping up to be very busy we do still have a few dates available for 2017. We are also taking bookings for 2018 so do get in contact if there is anything you would like to discuss regarding your special day!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for considering The Abyss Wedding & Function Band as your event entertainment. Feel free to browse our website, listen to audio clips and - if you wish - you can easily email Greg for a no-obligation quote for your wedding or function.
I just received a lovely email from Emilie that I thought I would share with you all. It features some kind words about her wedding this summer:
Hope you are well. I just wanted to say a massive Thankyou for making our wedding day so special and personal. We absolutely loved all of the music and were very grateful you learnt the songs for our first dance and walking down the aisle! We can't Thankyou enough and will definately be recommending you to family and friends."
Phew!! As the wedding season is starting to draw to a close Abyss - the Norfolk wedding band - are able to stop for a breath and update you as to what we have been up to. Throughout August we have been performing an average of two events a week - primarily weddings but also a birthday party and a bowls club anniversary event! There are too many to go through individually but I would like to pass my congratulations to all the bride & grooms who have booked Abyss - the Norwich wedding band - as your wedding entertainment throughout 2016. It really is a pleasure to be a part of so many special days and we are always delighted to send the party off with a bang!
If you have missed us but would like to catch up we have a public performance at the KA (Kings Arms) Pub in North Walsham on Friday 2nd September. The band kick off at 9:00pm!
It's been a wonderful start to the wedding season this year and The Wedding Band have been privileged to be a part of several special days already.
I would like to wish our congratulations to Andy and Ali who got married at the beautiful Sprowston Manor, surely one of Norwich's most popular wedding venues. Andy and Ali had a stupendous party featuring loads of singing along by their guests. My personal favourite moment was the dancing to the YMCA, where one audience member managed to spell out the words to the song with their legs!!!
Clive and Jane had a fabulous day at the stunning Strangers Hall, a grade I listed building in the centre of Norwich. The venue had some fascinating features and it was great to perform in 'the Undercroft' thinking that hundreds of years before chefs and waiters would have been preparing food for courtly banquets - rather a different party altogether!
Also, the weather held strong for Zoe and Mark's marquee wedding this Bank Holiday Monday and the couple had a spectacular day, featuring a terrific live performance of John Legend's classic hit 'All of Me' by Greg to start the band sets.
Abyss are performing at The Kings Arms Hotel in North Walsham this Saturday (13 Feb). It's always a fun night and we are providing music between 9:00pm - 12:00am.
Come and join us if you are free!
Happy New Year! The Abyss, wedding band, have been fortunate enough to end 2015 with some excellent wedding celebrations across both Norfolk and Suffolk - the most recent being for Stacey and Henry. Stacey was thrilled with the bands service and emailed to say "the music was brilliant which made for a good night for all and many people said how much they enjoyed the live music!"
On August 1st The wedding band were delighted to be invited to celebrate the wedding of Louise and Matt. Greg performed some bespoke choices of music throughout the ceremony before the band and DJ kicked off the evening celebrations.
Louise and Matt were thrilled with the function band and emailed very promptly to say:
"I just wanted to thank you again for all of our music.
You were absolutely fantastic from the ceremony to the rowdy dancing at the end! :) All of our guests commented repeatedly about how good you were and we had such a fantastic time. You managed to get the eclectic mix we wanted absolutely perfect and that meant everyone enjoyed it. We couldn't have asked for anything more, and we appreciated all the little extras too.
Thank you so much! We may need to organise a party now just so we can book you again!"
Vickie has taken the time to email to say thanks for the function bands performance at her wedding earlier this Summer...
"I just wanted to send you a note to say a massive thank you from myself and Adam for your performance at our wedding. The day was everything we wanted it to be and EVERYONE(!!) commented on how great you guys were! I really think a live band in that small a venue really helps to bring things alive! We couldn’t have been happier with the overall service and professionalism from you since the start of our communication so truly thank you, for contributing to our perfect day"
On Saturday The Abyss Wedding band were delighted to be a part of Becky and Joe's big day!
The weather was beautiful and Becky and Joe had a few beautiful original touches to their day including a sweet table with personalised love heart packets (including their names and wedding date embossed on the front of the packet) and some wonderful music from a string trio for wedding drinks.
Becky and Joe booked the ultimate party band for the evening reception, as they already had a resident DJ included in their package, and the bride and groom and all their guests commented on how special the live music had made their day.
It was a real pleasure to be a part of Kathryn and Rob's wedding this week at the lovely Godwick Great Barn. Kathryn and Rob had some beautiful touches to the day including: gorgeous bunting, various outdoor activities to keep their guests occupied, hay bales for the outdoor ceremony seating and even flip flops to help sore feet dance the night away!!! Thanks for choosing The Abyss Wedding & Function Band as your entertainment!
Some more nice words - this time from Clare who's wedding we performed at the weekend .... "Thanks for doing a fab job last night, lots of people commented on how great you were!"
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Gatward. We really enjoyed celebrating your wedding with you this Saturday - another wedding at the gorgeous Keeper and Dell. The wedding band performed on the raised decking, you can see some pictures on our facebook page.
We'll be rocking the KA in North Walsham tonight 9-12. Come and join us...
This weekend's wedding took place at the gorgeous Hautbois Hall, a privately run venue just outside of Coltishall. It was a stunningly sunny day for Jon and Caroline and they got some beautiful photos around the grounds in the expert hands of Andy Davison Photography. The wedding band entertained until the small hours with one of our most popular wedding packages; 2 x 45 minute band sets + DJ services. A brilliant day all round!
It is really sweet that Jo and John took time out of their honeymoon to email and thank us for providing the musical entertainment at their wedding. Jo said: " John and I both wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your efforts yesterday. We had an amazing day and our guests have been raving about the music, thank you, thank you!"
Congratulations Jo & John, who got married at the hidden Gem that is The Keeper and Dell on Saturday. The venue, in Ringland, is privately run and only operates throughout peak wedding season. There are a variety of buildings including a vintage style barn, marquee and birch garden and Jo and John had a wonderful day. Greg and Doug performed various acoustic guitar & voice performances - for the ceremony, wedding drinks and also the meal - and then the wedding band entertained the bride and grooms guests with two sets in the barn and a final acoustic set around the campfire to round off the day.
Greg just received a nice email from James and Kay thanking the wedding band for their performance at the weekend:
"Just to say a big thank you to you and your band for Friday. Everyone had a great time and there were loads of our guests commenting on how good the band was. We'll definitely be passing your name on if anyone else is after a band."
Congratulations to Kay & James who got married on Friday. James, Kay and their guests danced away into the small hours enjoying the Norwich wedding bands great sets and special arrangement of John Legends modern classic 'All of Me' for the bride and grooms first dance.
Abyss will be performing a rare public performance at the Kings Arms in North Walsham this Saturday (4th April).
It's free entry and begins at 9:00pm - hope to see you there!
On Friday night The Abyss Function Band performed for the NHS Star Awards 2015.
This event celebrates the fantastic achievements and levels of care provided by local hospitals and the Function Band were very pleased to be invited back again this year to help the proceedings go off with a bang.
The Abyss Function band provided entertainment through to the small hours and many of the guests did not sit down all night!!! Event orgainser Alaistair emailed to say "The Abyss were fantastic and think that was the busiest the dance floor has ever been. Also, your help and flexibility with setting up was invaluable!".
Some lovely words from Rebecca about The Abyss' (Norfolk Wedding Band) performance at her wedding in December 2014:
"We booked The Abyss Function & Wedding Band for our wedding in December. Greg was very flexible and gave us multiple options for the size of band and length and number of sets. We were given the opportunity to specify music and artists that we would like to include or leave out of the playlist. Greg and his team liaised directly with the reception venue to organise setting up etc which made our lives much easier. The band were fabulous on the day and many of guests commented on how much they enjoyed the music, they kept everybody up and dancing right until the end of the night. They played a beautiful arrangement of our first dance song which we loved. Overall we were absolutely delighted with Greg and his band and would certainly recommend them to anybody needing a band for a special occasion."
Merry Christmas Everybody!! We hope you have had a fantastic Christmas break.
Last weekend Abyss performed at Bex and Alan's Yuletide Wedding.
The Norwich Wedding Band arranged and performed the Actic monkeys modern classic track 'I Wanna Be Yours' for Bex and Alan's first dance and the bride and groom were thrilled with the arrangement. Bex and Alan decided to book the three piece function band without DJ to cut down on costs. They said to Greg on the night that having live music was an absolute key criteria for their wedding and they were grateful for Greg's advice while booking, which enabled them to find a package which was just what they wanted but still within their budget. Alan went on to say that the wedding band had "exceeded all our expectations"!
It's been a great end to the 2014 season with a few lovely gigs to round off the year. On October 18th (Greg's birthday incidentally!) Abyss travelled to the picturesque Dairy Barns, in Hickling to perform for Mike and Michelle's wedding. It was a lovely celebration and Mike and Michelle managed to create a few gorgeous personal touches to the day including snuggly dancing shoes and a stunning 'LOVE' outdoor sign - you can see a selection of photos from the wedding on our facebook page. After the wedding Mike sent a very nice message to say:
"We just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for all your hard work on Saturday... You (and the band) were brilliant. So many people have commented on just how great you sounded."
Abyss have also just performed a couple of festive public gigs in December - at The Kings Arms and the St Faiths Social Club - performing a wonderful selection of cheesy Christmas tunes on top of our usual repertoire!
Abyss have just received a lovely email from Diane thanking us for her musical entertainment at the end of August. It's always a great pleasure to be a part of someone's special day and we are always very grateful for people taking the time to say thanks to us for being there too! Please read some of her comments below:
"Just want to say a big thank you to you and your band for an unforgettable wedding evening reception on the Queen of the Broads. Everyone had such a fantastic time.
I really appreciated your advice when organising the evening and your suggestion to have a 3 piece acoustic band, it really worked well.
I have had so many people ask me for your band name and lots of comments of how good you were.
We had such a great evening and so did our family and friends, the only shame was that the time went so quickly!
Thank you so much."
Norwich Function Band Abyss will be performing at The Kings Arms in North Walsham this weekend (Sat 20th September) between 9:00 - 12:00. It's our first public gig in quite a few months so do come down if you can make it!
On Saturday 6th September Abyss traveled to Nottingham to provide a musical performance for Phil and Laura's wedding.
The venue (The New Art Exchange) provided a unique backdrop to the wedding with ample time allowed for the members of the wedding party to browse the exhibits and different rooms as the sun began to set.
To start the evening reception Phil and Laura had asked Greg for a bespoke arrangement of one of their favourite songs That's What's Up by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Greg, and his Norfolk Wedding Band, were happy to oblige- kicking the evening off in style with a fun and original arrangement.
The Norwich Wedding Band Abyss took sail this week and enjoyed a beautiful tour down the Norfolk Broads on the Queen of the Broads Cruiser; this was in celebration of Diane and David's wedding.
The weather was glorious and the views were spectacular - with inside and outside cabins, a bar and a disco area this broads tours boat is certainly a really interesting and unique way to celebrate your wedding reception.
Function Band Abyss always work closely with any event organisers (in this case Diane & David) to come up with a musical package which is perfect for their needs and we all decided that the best option - in terms of both ambience and space - was to provide the band sets on acoustic guitars and a stripped down drum kit, the band sets being interspersed with DJ sets. This (smaller set-up) enabled the wedding band to start the evening off in a relaxed style, with beautiful stripped-back renditions of classic ballads at the beginning of the cruise - and as the sun set the band and DJ livened things up to create a great 'moving' party atmosphere!
It was a great evening and there was much dancing, some great air guitar playing (!) and a tasty hog roast provided by local butchers Cawdrons. As usual, pictures of the event are available on our facebook page!
This weekend Norwich Wedding Band Abyss travelled to Kings Lynn, North Norfolk, to provide a musical accompaniment to Tasha and Rich's wedding. Greg provided a beautiful classical guitar accompaniment to the ceremony including a bespoke arrangement of David Guetta's club classic 'Titanium' for the classical guitar. The ceremony was held at the stunning Stone Hall function room in the Kings Lynn Town Hall. The Stone Hall itself is a stunning grand room with stone floors and expansive oak beams and the ceremony contained two beautiful readings by the sister of the groom and (what I think was a wonderfully written original poem! by) one of the bridesmaids.
After a few photos the wedding party made their way over to The Bank House Hotel - a venue with bags of character, history and Georgian charm. There are a few photos of the ceremony, reception and the band setting up on our facebook page and although the performance space was small (!), Norfolk Wedding Band, Abyss had a great evening entertaining Tasha, Rich and all their guests. We particularly enjoyed the aviator sunglasses worn by all the guests for the 'Top Gun' themed first dance 'Take My Breath Away' by Berlin.
The Abyss Wedding Band travelled to Great Melton yesterday to perform at Tim and Sarah's wedding at The Old Rectory. The Old Rectory is a beautiful Victorian country house and is privately owned, only recently gaining a license to perform ceremonies - it's definitely worth a look for all couples wanting a vintage twist or a wedding at a country house in the area.
Tim and Sarah enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, complete with scones and vintage crockery, followed by a sumptuous acoustic set performed by Greg in the late afternoon. To start the evening off everybody enjoyed a fish & chip tea (from the travelling van) and the evening reception was sent off in style by two band sets and a DJ service until 12:00. The band sets went down especially well with all guests, who danced the night away to some classic tracks. You can see a selection of photos at our facebook page, including photos of the first dance, the cake and a cheeky mid set photo of Doug standing in the audience.
Abyss have finally embraced the twenty-first century by creating an official artist facebook page today! Keep in touch and find out all the latest news and pictures at facebook.com/abyssweddingband
We are also now on Twitter. Follow us @Band_Abyss.
Still considering entertainment for your wedding? Here are some lovely words sent through from Kim after the function bands performance at her wedding in 2014:
A little late but just getting organised post wedding and wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to you all!
You and your band were incredible on 24th May and we can't thank you enough for making the music so fab!
Everyone had an amazing time and we have had no end of comments from family and friends on just how good the music was. You really did cater for everyone and every generation danced the night away!
Thank you so much for helping to make our day perfect - your song choices really were just spot on.
You guys rocked."
Another great wedding at the weekend and our congratulations go to Chris and Jess who had a beautiful day at the gorgeous Caistor Hall Hotel.
It was a pleasure to play at Oliver and Kalie's wedding on Saturday. The venue was decorated beautifully with some excellent buffet food provided by local caterers and fun was had by all as Greg DJed through until 1:00am!
At the weekend The Wedding Band travelled to perform for Tim and Laura's wedding in a beautiful marquee on private grounds in Great Abington, Cambridgshire. This was a fantastic and unique gig with the function band providing a beautiful rendition of The Beatles 'All You Need is Love' for the couples first dance. If you are interested the band will arrange, rehearse and perform any song of your choice - as your first dance song - for only £50. This is a great way to provide a unique twist to your favourite song!
The Abyss Wedding Band travelled outside of our normal catchment area of Norfolk & Norwich this weekend to perform at Kat and Sandy's wedding in Grittleton House, which is in Wiltshire (near Bath!). Kat and Sandy saw the function band perform at Sandy's brother, Rowland's, wedding last year and had to have us!!! They were not disappointed and the guests danced the night away to the band and DJ into the wee hours.
The Abyss (Function and Wedding Band) performed for Nikki and Richard's beautifully elegant wedding last Friday. Greg provided a lovely backdrop of classical guitar music for the ceremony and wedding drinks before the band struck up to send off the evening reception in style!
It was a pleasure to return to Dunston Hall this weekend for the wedding of Henry and Georgia. The lovely couple took the whole day in their stride and we were all very happy that the predicted thunder storms didn't come!!! Instead there was glorious sunshine. The Abyss Wedding and Function Band enjoyed the opportunity to bring down our bigger equipment rig (!) to perform in the Sunningdale suite for the evening reception. It was also lovely to work alongside the excellent photographer Rob Ward again and we would also recommend the very organised master of ceremonies and town crier Bob Lloyd.
In exciting news, I just learnt that The Abyss Wedding & Function Band have been featured in the June/July 2014 issue of Your East Anglian Wedding Magazine. Copies will be arriving in the shops as from now and you can read Greg's comments on how to create the perfect wedding reception playlist in the 'Marriage mix tape' feature - page 47 onwards.
We had a lovely time performing for Kim and Andy's wedding at the weekend (as the standard three piece function band + DJ). The venue was far from home at the Ashford War Memorial Institute, which was a grand building similar to a Village Hall in the heart of Ashford in the Water. The Abyss Wedding Band ensured that the people in this little 'chocolate box' village were up and dancing all night!
Looking for a band for your wedding or event in Norwich or Norfolk/Suffolk? Here are some lovely things that people have said about the Abyss (Wedding and Function Band) in the last couple of weeks:
"Thank you (and the band) so much for all your efforts at our wedding. You were absolutely outstanding and so many people came up to us on the day and said how wonderful you were both during the ceremony/wedding breakfast and in the evening. The band sets were phenomenal, with so many people dancing and having a great time. You played lots of the music we requested/suggested during the DJ set and we thank you for that. We would not hesitate to recommend you!" James Nuttall (Wedding booking)
"A huge thank you to you and the band for such a brilliant set on Saturday night. I have heard so many great comments from other guests about the music. It was perfect and you made our night extra special!" Gill Saywell (Colin's 60th Birthday Party)
"Thanks so much again for dad's party, it was just fantastic. Mum and dad got loads of thank you cards from their friends after the party, and they all mentioned how fantastic the band was!" Chloe Saywell (Colin's 60th Birthday Party)
"Awesome band and an amazing evening for my besties dad's 60th! Served dinner to over 80 people... #dreamteam" Rebecca Walden (Colin's 60th Birthday Party)

Also, last weekend we performed for Colin's 60th birthday party.
